At Profusion Web Development and Consulting, we take pride in knowing we do great work for our clients. However the work we do is really a means to pursue greater passions, and to attempt to make a difference with some of the greater problems in the world.
The news coverage of Haiti prompted our web developer Brad to seek out a group he could accompany there. His goal was to witness first hand what living conditions were like, what was being done by others to overcome problems, and to help out where he could. The group he found is called Friends of the Orphans Canada. They are based out of Woodstock, Ontario, and are affiliated with NPH International, an organization that has orphanages in nine countries including Haiti.
A group of twelve Canadians went down for seven days with enough donations to fill half of a bus. Amongst the group were electricians, painters, labourers, administrators, and our web developer Brad. When he arrived, he was surprised to find that several of the children and orphanage staff had laptops and computers donated to them. The Haitians also had a seemingly endless amount of computer problems. Brad didn't go on this trip expecting to fix computers, but he realized he was the only one around who was able to fix them. Knowing this, he spent most of the trip in an office with Haitian teenagers, formatting their laptops, re-installing Windows, fixing problems and attempting to teach the Haitians what he could.
Brad still maintains a social relationship with members of FotoCan and NPH. If your business has old laptops, computer accessories, or other goods that may be useful to an orphanage in a developing county, contact Brad or FotoCan to discuss your potential donation.
